ERIC IMESON and CAROL CAPILIJA Glass Artists

In the late 80's, Carol Capilija and Eric Imeson met in the Glass Studios of Sydney where they were both assisting productions in exchange for furnace time. As glass blowing is a two person dance they teamed up. Carol had done a Fine Arts Degree majoring in glass, and Eric had been involved in the developement of studio glassblowing in N.Z. since its conception in the early 70's. The early 90's saw Carol travelling overseas gaining experience in the States and Eric building furnaces and teaching glassblowing for a Sydney Arts College until teaming up again to raise finances to build a studio of their own. The site of this Studio would ultimately be an environmental and lifestyle choise. When they travelled to the Atherton Tablelands during a seven-year stint in industrial glass production on the Goldcoast, they found the climate suited to the long days working in front of the high temperature furnaces and surroundings inspirational to the styles of work they wished to produce. Three years more of construction and relocation and the studios were up and running, producing work reflecting the colors and forms of the far North Queensland, from reef to the bush and the greens between.

TANIA HEBEN Painter

During 1987 Tania moved to the Far North of Queensland which she feels was an experience which helped her to "really see color for the first time" and her use of brilliant color is undeniably one of the most well known features of her work. Tanis Heben's oils depict "Local impressions" from North Queensland where she now lives. Her works contrast vivid local scenes of people still influenced by the colonial settlement period of the 1800's with the lush tropical vegetation of the Australian Rainforest and Jungle. Tania's paintings have been described as "Gauguinesque" with a strong influence of both Gauguin and Matisse in her work. "I love the drama and the colors of Queensland and the local people fascinate me as they are so much a combination of the old and new. By way of record, I want to capture the architecture of the old Queensland style buildings before the disappear", Tania explains. Tania's paintings are included in the private collections of many well known identities, and she has also exhibited in Beverly Hills, California, USA.
